Tuesday

Tuesday started out great with some coffee and Honey Comb cereal. We were packing up the car around 10:30am when much to her amusement Meredith noticed that the Pontiac had a flat tire.

Fortunately we had a somewhat road worthy donut so Glen and I proceeded to put it on.

The flat tire was too big to go back into the spare compartment so we had no choice but to load it onto the top of the load.

While I was washing up the camp supervisor gave Meredith and Glen some tips about what to do with the rest of the time we had to spend in the park. We didnt have a lot of time so he suggested we head back to the interpretive center to do an hour hike called something I cant remember.

So we headed down to Woody Point and found a garage to drop off the flat tire with while we went for a hike.

The first 2/3 of the trail carved its way up through the a well worn path through the woods. Once it broke out into the marshy fields, we were accomodated by this wooden boardwalk.
It took about 45 minutes to get to the top. The wooded portion was not particularily steep but it had us all winded which was good since we all were in need of a good leg stretching. The Tablelands are seen in the background of this photo.
Ive been in the valued company of Glen on both coasts now from British Colombia to Newfoundland.

With a bit of nature and some tired lungs behind us we headed back to the garage to pick up our tire and head on.

We were not certain about a destination. We were a couple of hours behind schedule and had to get a few miles behind us if we were going to hit St. Johns at a reasonable time the next day.

So we drove for 4 or 5 hours and stopped in at a visitor information center at the intersection of the road that heads up to Twilingate.

The girls inside convinced us that we should head north. It was only an hour away to get close to the Twilingate area which came highly recommended. We were determined to go iceberg hunting the next day and we figured that we would be poised to do so in this area.

So here we found ourselves at Dildo Run which is at the end of Virgin Arm. As ironic as that sounds, that is where we were.

You can not imagine how lucky we were to have come across this campground. We had a campsite that had exclusive access to an entire cove complete with a beach where we could launch the kayak from. It was a beautifull evening and the water was nice and calm. Meredith and Glen took advantage of the water while I took care of the Blue Star.

There were rabbits EVERYWHERE.

I would like to say we stayed up all night and overindulged but the long days were adding up and we were feeling the effects. I do recall that it was a less fullfilling evening as far as guitar went. I had a pretty solid buzz on and proceeded to pound out every cornball song I know in a less than flattering manner.

Glen and Meredith were kind enough to patiently listen.

Meredith went on a long tour in the kayak exploring up and down the shoreline and around the island.
Meredith is just a little dot on the water, I watched her paddle for quite a while.
We all spent some time wandering around our secluded cove. It was nice to have a piece of nature all to ourselves on a vacation as opposed to being crowded out. Dusk was very serene.
Glen is out on the water here while I snuck up behind Meredith to try and capture the moment.

I had my camera at my side at all times. I got almost 300 pictures with my camera and we got almost 200 pictures and several videos with Merediths camera. I dont have much need for a fancy camera. I prefer a portable, rugged cheap model. A fancy one would not survive long in my possesion.

So that was it. An end to another amazing day in our lives. We could not believe our luck. We could not ask for better weather and the lack of planning was working out great.

In hindsight, a plan would have needlessly bound us to an unrealistic schedule. This way we went where ever and stayed as long as we wanted to and it couldnt have worked out any better. And we hadnt been affixiated by the exhaust fumes from the car yet so we were happy. Too bad theres no leaded gas anymore or else we could at least enjoy it (for those who dont remember, exhaust fumes from vehicles burning leaded gasoline smell pretty good).
